The winery since 980 A.D., the date of the first written account on wine production at the farm, is an integral part of Tuscan rural life, and it is in these rich lands that we carry on every day an ancient oenological and agricultural tradition. Revaluation interventions have been mainly focused on wine production, through significant investments in the recovery of ancient vineyards and the establishment of new ones. Our structure consists of two distinct company units: the splendid lands in Montefiridolfi, extremely suitable for viticulture and where the farm stay is located, and the lands adjacent to the winery. From 34 hectares of vines, we select only the grapes that can reflect the quality standards for all our wines: from Chianti Classico vintage, to Riserva, to Gran Selezione, to our IGT, for a total of about 50,000 bottles produced annually. The history of the company begins in the early '50s, when my grandfather succeeded in purchasing the land on which he had already been working for a long time with the family, but as a sharecropper. It was one of the first Tuscan farming families to move away from the sharecropping regime, thus allowing the birth of the current agricultural company where my grandfather worked as a versatile farmer, and where later my father decided to dedicate himself completely to vineyard management and wine production. Over the years, the most important results were, in chronological order: deeply understanding the lands, previously cultivated in an archaic way, selecting two local Sangiovese clones with which we still produce today, choosing to increase the presence of Malvasia Nera. We identified the unsuspected presence in San Miniato of this fantastic plant that we now know to be Tempranillo. Today our winery is the only one in Tuscany producing wines using this precious centuries-old grape variety, with historical roots in San Miniato.

The first documented historical references of our castle date back to 1077. It has crossed the centuries and seen different owners succeed. In the fifteenth century, it was the domain of the Ricasoli family and a Florentine bulwark in the wars between Florence and Siena. In the eighteenth century, it was partially transformed into a manor villa, while the remaining village hosted about 70 people. From 1920 to 2018, the castle successively belonged to two families, and our project is to develop what has already been started, respecting the history and traditions of the place. The certified organic company covers 170 hectares, of which 17 are vineyards for the production of Chianti Classico, 10 hectares of olive groves, and the rest forests. The vineyards are spread over five different areas around the central nucleus of the castle at altitudes ranging from 300 to 500 meters above sea level. Furthermore, the farmhouse has 17 rooms, an on-site restaurant, garden, and a panoramic swimming pool.

The winery was founded in 1983 by Marisa and Hideyuki, an Italo-Japanese couple who met in the Sixties at the Turin Motor Show when Hideyuki was touring the world on a motorcycle and shortly before Marisa embarked on a life experience in Japan. The two fell in love instantly and, after over twenty years spent in Piedmont and raising a large family, they wanted to find a locus amœnus to settle, so they arrived at the winery. Initially born as a social farming project, focused on welcoming and reintegrating young adults into society through immersive contact with nature, over time the company gained more and more experience in wine production, which became the main engine and reason for important recognition in the wine sector. Unconditional respect for the environment has turned the 42 hectares of the estate into a treasure trove of uncontaminated biodiversity, fundamental for the well-being of the vines and for the production of quality wines. Starting from the founding grandparents, today the company has reached the third generation.

Our family-run company was established in the early 1900s on the hills between Cortona and Montepulciano at the border between the provinces of Arezzo, Siena, and Perugia. From the Central Company located at 360 meters above sea level, you can see Lake Trasimeno, the hills of Cortona, Monte Amiata, and Subasio. The vineyards, always present in the company, began to be modernized from the mid-90s with the introduction of local and international varieties, which best express their characteristics in this territory. In these hills, dedicated since ancient times to the production of high-quality grapes, the family currently cultivates about 10 hectares of vineyards with high-density planting (about 5200 vines/ha) and the main training method is spurred cordon. The varieties present are Syrah, which is the grape variety at the basis of the Cortona DOC denomination, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sangiovese. White grape varieties have also recently been planted, such as Chardonnay and Viognier. Always dedicated to the cultivation of cereals and legumes typical of the territory, today more than 15 varieties.

Our company currently extends to Montalcino on an area of about 25 hectares, 10 of which are vineyards, some of which are registered in the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Wine Register. The property is completed with 4 hectares of vineyards in the Montecucco area; the rest is covered by olive groves and woods. Every hectare hosts about 5000 vines of the best selections of Sangiovese. Cultivation techniques are adopted that favor low yields, well below the 80 quintals per hectare provided for in the production regulations. A difficult choice, but the most effective to obtain a great wine. In the welcoming premises of the cellar, everything is vinified and aged from the younger IGT to the most sought-after Brunello. Here, large casks of Slavonian oak and barrels of Allier oak give each wine unmistakable aromas and enveloping scents. The cellar, recently expanded, now has a new vinification room and a bottle aging cellar, both equipped with modern technologies aimed at achieving the highest quality of the final product.

The estate covers about 15 hectares and, by rebuilding from the old ruins, 26 rooms for hospitality, 1 restaurant, 2 swimming pools, and a tennis court were created. Surrounding the property are the vineyards completely replanted in the early 90s and the company has about 7.5 hectares, of which 6 hectares are Sangiovese for the production of the 3 Chianti Classico DOCGs and 1.5 hectares of Merlot for the production of IGT wines. Total production amounts to around 25,000 bottles per year and all management, both agronomic and in the cellar, is 100% ORGANIC. The lands are mainly rich in galestro and clay, and the 7 different vineyard plots allow the company to do a microzoning of the vineyards for the production of reserve and Gran Selezione Chianti Classico.
